We started Nine98 as lifelong players with one mission — to give every amateur footballer the digital home they’ve always deserved. What began as a few games logged between friends is now a global movement of 3,000+ players, 200+ jersey swaps, and a shared passion for the game that unites us all.

How did Nine98 Start?

We didn’t mean to start a football company. We just wanted a game. 2022, we’re stuck at a tech conference, bored out of our minds. Decided we needed an impromptu game of football. Fired off a tweet: “Who’s down to play.” A few hours later 30 strangers showed up at a local park near the conference. We jumped the fence (sorry City of Miami) and played 11-a-side all-out football. A few months later we’d become an underground popup football club. Wherever we’d go, the game would follow – Paris, London, Miami, NYC, with hundreds of players at every destination. Then it clicked that we could really get serious about making life better for amateur players. None of us went pro, but as we traveled for work we were hunting games across the world like it was life or death. Nothing else could replace the feeling of being on a pitch with the ball at our feet. And we knew millions of other players felt the same. So we started to build the Nine98 app, and now it’s here. Our story as amateur footballers isn’t unique. But that’s the whole point.
